Materials & fittings

Consumer units and circuit breakers are usually Fusebox brand unless otherwise agreed. Sockets, switches and accessories are usually Click or M2 brand, standard white plastic with rounded or square edges, unless discussed otherwise. Dimmer switches are not included as standard. Decorative or metal accessories can be sourced on request but cost more — this should be agreed in advance of work starting.

What’s included

Every quoted price includes testing, certification, and registration with Building Control. It does not include earth bonding of water, gas, or oil services entering the property, as this is assumed to already be in place.

Making good

Some jobs require chasing into walls, which can cause minor associated damage to walls, skirting boards, and architraves — filling chases, making good, and decorating are not included in the price. Where floorboards need lifting, they’ll be reasonably reinstated but not re-carpeted; specialist flooring work isn’t included. Depending on the circuits involved, some ceiling damage is possible, and replacing ceilings isn’t included in the quoted price — a separate estimate can be provided for any repair work.

Site cleanliness

Electrical work creates dust. Efforts are made to keep this to a minimum, and floors are swept and vacuumed at the end of each shift — but customers should expect to do a final clean of surfaces and items themselves once work is complete.

Payment

For larger installation jobs, payment is typically staged: 20% on acceptance of the quote (to confirm booking and cover part of the material costs), 40% after the first fix is complete, and the remaining 40% on completion. Any delays or reconfiguration through no fault of Simian Electrical are charged at £45 per man hour, plus materials. Billing is invoiced by email after the job — payment isn’t collected on site.
